FOR THE PEOPLE
& THE PLANET

H2O’s commitment to the planet – and you – is rooted in all we do! With each new technological innovation in purification, power sourcing, bottling and recycling, we strive to improve our eco-friendly processes in order to preserve natural resources.

Over a million gallons of water naturally flows from Hillcrest Spring every day. H2O Technologies is permitted by the Department of Natural Resources to collect 360,000 gallons of water per day. Although we could, we do not believe taking this much water would enable an ecological balance to be sustained downstream. Further, to protect our family-owned spring and its pristine environment, we do not bottle at the source. As stewards of the planet, and this precious resource, we are devoted to protecting the spring ecosystem and downstream riparian zones for generations.

Water in “to-go” containers will always be required for convenience.

As a business, we knew we must find a way to meet this need, while considering the ecological impact. Given our strong environmental stance, some have questioned why we bottle in only PET plastic.

The answer is simple, not all plastics are created equal.

PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles and jugs are safe, BPA free, resealable, lightweight, shatter resistant, infinitely recyclable and reusable. As compared to aluminum and glass, emissions from producing PET bottles are much lower, and production uses less water and creates less solid waste.

To increase sustainability further, our 3 and 5 gallon jugs are reused and refilled over and over again before being recycled.

The reduced amount of energy required to produce the PET, the low greenhouse gas emissions, the lighter weight for transport, reusability and its 100% recyclability make PET bottles and jugs the clear winner.

RECYCLING 101

It is important that the cap is attached to an intact bottle for successful recycling. Yes, we were once told to remove the lids and flatten the bottles, but not anymore! Crushed bottles are often improperly identified in the sorting process, and small loose caps are more likely to get sent to the garbage pile. Landfill-bound wastes are what most often become ocean pollutants. With our 100% Recyclable Bottles and Caps, it’s even easier to do your part for the environment!

Once you’ve hydrated your body, the bottles and caps can be made into new bottles, into clothing (think of your favorite polar fleece), carpeting, furniture, food containers, packaging supplies, home building materials and so much more. Repurposing plastic bottles into different items requires 40-90% less energy than making new plastic because it doesn’t have to be created, just re-formed. Thus, reusing PET as the raw material for other items creates a circular plastic economy, which requires less overall energy and greatly reduces carbon emissions and greenhouse gases.
